Our Cooking Stage is Heating Up

We are so excited to reveal the eclectic mix of the top chefs and local culinary talent who will be hitting the Cooking Stage from October 26 - 29, 2017 at the Vancouver Fall Home Show. With a number of unique presentations to look forward to such as modern veganism, Japanese comfort food, and a demonstration that will be sure to hit home with BC residents on a local favourite: Caesar 101, this year’s presenters are heating up the kitchen and diving deep into some of our favourite local trends.

To help you get to know the culinary talent set to hit the Cooking Stage this year, let briefly introduce our talented presenters below.

Rotem Tal / Itamar Shani

Rotem Tal and Itamar Shani of the newly opened plant-based restaurant Chickpea, and the popular Chickpea Food Truck are must-see chefs joining the Vancouver Fall Home Show line-up on the Cooking Stage.

The pair met in Vancouver and immediately connected over their Israeli roots and love for fresh Mediterranean inspired cooking. They both dreamed of opening a plant-based restaurant with healthy and delicious food, with a funky vibe fusing their Mediterranean culinary style and the West Coast lifestyle they have both grown to love.

Red Seal Chef, writer and host Gordon Desormeaux is joining the Vancouver Fall Home Show on the Cooking Stage, sharing his passion for food and his enthusiasm for culinary arts. Chef Dez has written a number of cookbooks including The Best In Your Kitchen and a new motivational book, Parsley is World Peace in Disguise. You will not want to miss this charismatic presenter who will be serving up a dose of inspiration, with his presentation Food Creates Peace.

Local entrepreneur Aaron Harowitz and food writer Kate Dunn-Roy are joining the Vancouver Fall Home Show at the Cooking stage for their presentation on one of Canada’s favourite cocktails: Caesar 101.

Aaron Harowitz, the Co-Founder & CEO of Walter Craft Caesar is a globetrotting adventurer with a passion for art, design, food & beverage, and family & friends. After working in a variety of creative industries Aaron founded Walter Craft Caesar in 2013 with a childhood friend Zack, proudly producing Canada’s first all-natural craft caesar mix.

Assistant Manager of Timber, a hip restaurant and gastropub in Vancouver, Kate Dunn-Roy is a lover of all things food. The Ontario native who now lives in Vancouver shares her love of farm-to-table fare by writing online articles under her personal brand Kate’s Test Kitchen.

Named one of the most daring and innovative chefs in Vancouver, Jefferson Alvarez of Cacao restaurant is a must-see presentation joining the Vancouver Fall Home Show Cooking Stage. The Venezuelan born chef raised in Canada has experimented with international cuisines from a young age and trained with top chefs around the world. His love for seasonal ingredients, fusing Latin cuisine and his meticulous attention detail is why you don’t want to miss his presentation on Venezuelan cuisine.

Sommelier, writer and independent wine, beer and spirits consultant Ryan Lewis joins the Vancouver Fall Home Show sharing his passion for good food and wine. Although born in Richmond, the ISG Level 3 Diploma Certified Sommelier has travelled internationally and throughout the Lower Mainland consulting on wine, beer and spirits. Learn about wine and food pairings for the perfect party from Ryan on the Cooking Stage.

Joining the Vancouver Fall Home Show on the Cooking Stage, Red Seal chef Nathan Lowey is sharing his expertise on one of the latest food trends: Japanese comfort food. Originally from Regina, Nathan worked with top chefs in premier dining restaurants in Edmonton before relocating to Vancouver. After working at award winning Campagnolo and Campagnolo Roma, alongside his wife Akiyo, together they opened Dosanko. Serving homestyle dishes with a tribute to ‘mixed-family’ traditions, the husband and wife duo are seasonally inspired with a focus on local food, quality products and ‘slow cooking’.

The Vancouver Fall Home Show is pleased to introduce Chris Andraza who will be hitting the Cooking Stage with his presentation More Than Just Oysters. Although Chris has only been with Fanny Bay Oyster Bar for a year, his presence has gained notoriety in the Vancouver culinary scene for his re-invention of Canadian classics with a unique seafood twist, such as his award winning Smoked Oyster Poutine. Born and raised on the East Coast, Chris made the journey west to follow his passion for food and sustainable seafood.
