Baking Up a Storm at the Edmonton Fall Home Show

To help celebrate the Edmonton Fall Home Show, we invited some of YEG's top tastemakers to put their baking skills to the test. Hosted by The Art of Cake, a made to order cake company located in the heart of downtown Edmonton, seven of Edmonton’s most creative were challenged to build a birthday cake at the Edmonton Fall Home Show’s Birthday Cake Bake-Off.
Gloria Bednarz, Artist and Owner of The Art of Cake will be presenting on the Cooking Stage during the Edmonton Fall Home show at 5pm, Saturday, October 21, 2017. Gloria kicked off the night in style with a fun tutorial on decorating the ultimate ‘All The Rave Cake’ – drip cakes and semi naked cakes.
“We’ll be showing some design tips using everyday utensils around your house,” Gloria shared, telling us what we can expect to learn during her presentation at the Edmonton Fall Home Show. “How to create a simple but WOW factor cake.”
It was then time for our challengers to dig in and get their hands dirty, using basic household utensils as Gloria instructed. “Decorating a cake does not have to be a daunting task, let’s simplify it by using basic household tools.”
“People use baking as a hobby; a time to relax,” Gloria explained. “It relieves stress, and a beautifully decorated cake always makes a great gift.”
With Gloria to guide and inspire them, our challengers let loose, having a great night getting creative and channeling their inner child to design their beautiful cakes.
As we finished up the evening, we asked Gloria to give us her number one tip when it comes to cake decorating. “Don’t rush the process, keep it simple,” she advised. “Bake ahead, cool your cake. Don’t try to do everything in one day. And have fun!”
