Local Takes on Hot Spring Trends

Feb 21, 2019, 18:57 PM
Spring is (almost) here! As you get ready to dive into your spring cleaning, it’s also time to think about refreshing your space and sprucing it up. From graphic prints to boho touches, spring is all about having fun with your space and finding ways to truly make it yours. Although it can be overwhelming to think of all the ways to revamp your space, we have you covered with some top tips and insights from our experts appearing at the upcoming Calgary Home + Garden Show, Feb. 28 to Mar. 3 at the BMO Centre.

Hella Design

Bold Prints
Dress up those walls. According to Breanna Lukacsy and Rehanna Hartung from Calgary’s very own Hella Design Studio, graphic artwork is in for spring. Pieces that are rich in texture and colour help add visual interest to light spaces, so Breanna and Rehanna suggest opting for prints in saturated tones, or keeping things classic by sticking to bold, graphic black and white pieces. Minted.com is a favourite resource to shop online!

See them at the Calgary Home + Garden Show: Don’t miss Breanna and Rehanna’s take on mixing high end furniture with unique DIY decor projects at DIY Living Space presented by Rust-Oleum, located in Hall D.

Plant Wall

Greens Greens Greens
Bring a touch of spring inside. Florals and greenery in the home will make your space feel vibrant and full of life. Urban environments can lack an organic touch, but floral designer Cory Christopher finds that finds that bringing the outdoors in can help you achieve balance in your home. Try compact forms of your favourite plants, such as succulents or snake plants, to replicate the outdoors inside (bonus: they’re low-maintenance, so perfect for new plant parents!).

Bold Boho
We love boho details for spring! From moroccan leather poufs, to vintage kilim rugs, to macramé wall hangings, we can’t get enough of the fun and worldly aesthetic that these touches lend to a room. The best part? You can get the look by creating a piece of your very own, thanks to plenty of online tutorials, or better yet, an in-person workshop with Calgary’s Pinnovate.

See it at the Calgary Home + Garden Show: Create your very own macramé wall hanging at a Pinnovate workshop right on the show floor, in Hall D. Pre-register online and get ready to tell your guests “I made it!” when they ask where you got your gorgeous new wall piece.
